Hyco Lake is a 3750 acre Reservoir in Person and Caswell counties, North Carolina.

 

Hyco was first named Hicotaminy, meaning Great Turkey Buzzard, by the native Indians.

 

It was built in the early 1960s as a cooling reservoir  for Carolina Power & Light's coal fired electric generation plant, now known as Progress Energy.

 

The lake was filled by Hurricane Hilda in 1965.

 

The lake  level normally  fluctuates +/- 6" in the year.
